PEÑISCOLA There are plenty of things to do while you vacation in Peñiscola. You can spend a day at the beach,explore the old city, visit the Castle of Pope Benedic XIII, Shop for antiques and souvenirs. At 5 pm all the fishing trawlers come back to port and auction off the catch of the day. You can buy fish right out of the boat and take it home to cook and enjoy. After a great dinner you can spend the night out dancing in one of dozens clubs and pubs.
MORELLA Medieval city located 80 km from Peñiscola. Makes a great day trip. Leave early in the morning and drive up to Morella. The road is excellent and there are several picturesque villages along the way. The Morella area is the world largest producer of truffels (don´t tell that to the french). The city is located on top of a hill and is surounded by 5Km of walls and fortifications. Visit the Basilica de Santa Maria la Mayor (outstanding Valencia Gothic architecture); the castle and monastery of San Francisco; the gothic town Hall ( XIV c.); the gothic Aqueduct. There are great restaurants and bars. The local fiesta of San Roque are held the 2nd week in August.
VALL D´UIXÓ The San Jose caves hold one of Europe longest navigable underground rivers.. You will be amazed by the large underground halls, stalagmite formations and the surreal underground boat trip.
PORT AVENTURA Located 1 hour north of Peñiscola, this Universal Studios theme park is one of the best parks in Europe. This was the original site selected by Walt Disney to build EuroDisney. Port Aventura conprises 5 different lands with thematic rides, shows and theaters. The main attraction is the DRAGON KHAN roller coaster located in Chinaland,. It is the only roller coaster in the world with 8 inverted loops and attains speeds of over 110 Km. (68 mph)
THE DELTA The delta of the river Ebro is one of the most beautiful Natural Parks in the Mediterranean. A boat trip along the mouth of the river enables you to enjoy the great wealth of flora and fauna living on its banks. The several islands located in the delta are without a doubt the most attractive areas of a wonderful and heavenly natural enviroment where numerous variaties of aquatic birds have made their home.
BADUM TOWER Located 4 miles south of Peñiscola along the south coast road. This round tower is located at the foot of the Sierra IRTA. It is an advance watchtower for the city of Peñiscola. It's origin is Moslem and was contructed in the XIII c. It was rebuilt in the XVI c. as a defense against the Barbary Coast pirates. It is in very good condition and makes for an interesting outing. You can enjoy a picnic, take pictures and admire the views.
THE COLUMBRETE ISLANDS A group of volcanic islands situated 35 miles from the coast of Peñiscola. With extremely wealthy sea beds, the islands are protected as a conservation area and access to them is restricted in order to protect their natural ecosystem. You can book a day trip with lunch on one of the many yatchs that visit the islands during the summer season. Windsurfing, snorkling and scuba diving are some of the activities you can enjoy.
Valencia is Spain's 3rd largest city. The major industries are furniture making, floor and wall tile production and Orange exports. Valencia host one of the worlds largest furniture shows. The Valencia oranges are exported all over the world.
