Our average meal consists of two sherrys, One apetizer to share and two main courses. 1 bottle of wine (8 to 12EU), 1 bottle of water, bread, two deserts, coffe and tea.
This arduous and exausting research was conducted for your benefit the week of July 15, 2002
Our second choice is SIMO'S. Located on the water front just as you enter the castle's round parking lot (Calle Porteta, 5)and with a gorgeous view overlooking the north beach, Simo's is a sure bet. Clean, well run and with an excellent menu, the husband and wife team will cater to your needs and serve excellent food. Their menu is tipical for the area and all their deserts are homemade. We take our visiting friends there as the views are sure to impress them. It is our favotite restaurant for a late night dinner for two. Their terrace is excellent and has lots of shade. The dinning room has removable window panels and allows the breeze to flow. They also have a hotel above the restaurant.
Located on Avenida Papa Luna n.5, just before the Papa Luna Hotel. Casa Jaime has earned many culinary awards as the many ribbons, silver trophies and pictures acclaim. They are also highly rated on several spanish gastronomical guides.
Jaime Jr. is the son of the chef and is responsable for the dinning room and the day to day management. He is well versed in spanish wines and can help you choose the right wine for your meal. He is also the webmaster for their web site. They also offer several personal variations of the Famed Paella such as Arroz Callabuch with seaweeds and anemoneas. But you must leave room for their famous desert, Tarta de Naranjas, Orange cake.
We found their prices to be very reasonable and their food preparation far superior that other restaurants in town. English menu available about 30euros per person and well worth it.
Peñiscola is full of good restaurants, however after many visitswe have established our own list of favorites.
Our third choice is Bar La RASPA. This local bar located next to the post office and overlooking the bridge connecting the lake is the perfect rest stop while downtown Peñiscola.
This local bar offers a daily lunch with 3 or 4 choices of apetizers, main courses and deserts. All for 7 EU per person. Food is good. Menu changes every day and is always our choice for a quick lunch or apetizer. Alfredo, the young waiter has been there for 4 years now and speaks good english.
Do not forget to experience all of Peñiscola. We love to go down to the Farmers Market on Mondays. Located in the parking lot by the main lake, this market operates monday morning only. You can buy local fruits and vegetables.
Also every day about 5pm, all the fishing vessels arrive at the main dock and you can buy fresh fish right out of the boats.
